Summer babies cry, winter babies rejoice! The weather is definitely cooling down in South Africa. Summer is waving her last good byes by kissing the earth with later sunrises, while autumn is definitely making an appearance with tiny slithers of chill early in the morning. You’re going to have to swop that fruity cocktail for a cup of hot chocolate very soon.
Going from summer to autumn, our skins can often become incredibly dry and irritated.
Dermalogica’s national education manager, Diana van Sittert, answered the burning question.
She explained that the skin’s main function is protection so for this reason the skin reacts to change in temperature on a daily basis but even more so with change of season. The skin builds up more dead skin cells, which leads to the skin feeling “dry” with the onset of winter and lower temperatures. It is therefore important to support your skin in the following way with seasonal changes:
- Add moisture in the form of a masque or booster
- Use a barrier protective product to prevent moisture loss
- Exfoliate with a gentle exfoliator at least twice a week
Diana suggests the following Dermalogica products during seasonal change:
- Skin Hydrating Masque (R710)
- Skin Hydrating Booster (R1 030)
- Barrier Repair (R680)
- Gentle Cream Exfoliant (R890)
