After all the stress, planning and eventually the big day, you will be left with a husband, sweet memories and photographs. Choosing a photographer is one of the main things you need to consider when getting married because years later you can still go through them all and relive your wedding day.
I had two main categories for choosing our wedding photographer:
- Quality of photos
As with most things when you’re planning a wedding, the price will decide whether or not you book certain vendors. I decided on three things I really want to spend a bit more money on and the photographer was one of them.
Let me just tell you that most photographers are expensive. When I say expensive, I mean like R11 000 and up. Some even begin at R30 000. Usually they have three or four different packages to choose from and the price for each package will vary.
Each package will include certain things such as them taking pics of your day, editing a certain amount afterwards and then delivering the photos to you either on a CD or USB.
Some even print photographs for you, compile them in coffee table books or make canvas prints that you can put up in your house. It all depends on you and what you like.
In my experience, it would appear that many photographers don’t include the engagement shoot in their prices. It’s an additional R2 500. However, ours included an engagement shoot in her package. Hooray!
I chose ours based on some of her previous work and also the quality and sharpness of her pictures. All photographers have different styles and edit their pictures differently, which is why you need to look at their portfolios and previous work.
Photographers aren’t shy to post some of their work on their websites, blogs, Facebook pages and Instagram accounts. Check them all out when deciding and read the comments posted on their various platforms.
About our photographer
Our photographer is Hanri Human. We went to high school together and her mom was my science teacher. We didn’t know each other in school though, but after school our paths crossed when I worked for a newspaper and she sent a couple of photos through for an article in the paper.
She’s worked with celebs and numerous major publications in South Africa.
Check out her website here.
I’ve included some stunning pictures Hanri’s taken. Feast your eyes!
You can contact her here.
She doesn’t only photograph weddings so if you have a special event you’d like her to capture, be sure to drop her a line.
